Rapperswil-Jona relies on fill level measurement in the Smart City concept

Fill level measurement is a key component in the innovative Smart City concept that is leading cities into the future. This advanced technology offers multiple benefits that increase efficiency and sustainability in urban environments. Here we present two concepts.

More about the Smart City concept

In collaboration with CRA Mess-, Regel- + Antriebstechnik AG and adnexo GmbH, Rapperswil-Jona has implemented pioneering Smart City projects. These projects aim to sustainably improve the economic stability of the municipality. In future, sensor technology and automation will streamline recurring tasks with a view to preparing for expected growth and at the same time using resources more efficiently. The smooth cooperation between the partners is characterised by rapid implementation and innovative solutions.

The ax-track Smart City platform allows you to manage a large number of measurement sensors centrally. From the GPS positions of municipal vehicles to the air quality in the Bollwies school building and the fill level of the municipal stream - all relevant information is available on a map which is accessible on office computers, smartphones, and tablets.
Fill level measurement and therefore the level indicator is a key component in the innovative Smart City concept that is leading Rapperswil-Jona into the future. This advanced technology offers multiple benefits that increase efficiency and sustainability in urban environments.

Efficient water level control in the urban stream using sensors

The project:

The municipality of Rapperswil-Jona is responsible for monitoring the municipal stream. In the past, the water level was checked manually by an employee. Two sensors now allow for the water volume to be conveniently monitored using the ax-track app. The responsible personnel receives immediate notifications when the stream reaches a low level and measures are required.

What it does:

The water level has a significant impact on the quality of life of animals and plants in and near streams. Installing the sensors eliminates the need for manual checks, which means monthly savings of around 4,500 CHF for the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona. These resources can be used more sensibly, while the water level control runs more efficiently.

Effective fill level measurement in the overflow basin of the West school building

The project:

In the kindergarten building there is an overflow basin next to the power distribution, which was equipped with a float switch and a transmission module for safety reasons.

What it does:

Preventing water from entering the power distribution system if the pool overflows is crucial to prevent potential injuries. A simple sensor recognises the critical fill level and notifies the responsible personnel by SMS. You can always check the level indicator in the ax-track app.
