LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) 

LoRaWAN is a wireless communication technology that has been specially developed for IoT applications. It is based on the LoRa (Long Range) radio protocol, which enables a long range and a low data rate, making it ideal for applications where long battery life and a reliable wireless connection over long distances are required. LoRaWAN uses a star network topology in which end devices (sensors or actuators) send data to LoRaWAN gateways, which in turn forward the data to network servers that are responsible for processing and forwarding the data to applications or cloud platforms.  
LoRaWAN providers are for example: Swisscom LPN, LORIOT and Networks, which are based on ChirpStack.

Mobile communications standards: LTE Cat M1 and NB-IoT. 

LTE Cat M1 (LTE-M) and Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) are mobile communications standards that have been specially developed for IoT communication and are part of the LTE network. LTE Cat M1 offers a higher bandwidth and is therefore more suitable for applications with higher data rates and real-time communication, while NB-IoT offers an extremely low data rate and improved building penetration and is therefore suitable for applications with low data traffic and a high number of devices in densely populated areas.
